Five Million Buys a Citizenship Gold Card

US News magazine reports:

Trump said the gold card would cost “about $5 million,” provide a “route to citizenship” and could be available in two weeks. ... The gold card would replace the existing EB-5 visa program, which allows foreign investors to obtain green cards by making job-creating investments in the country. Lutnick criticized the EB-5 program as being “full of nonsense, make-believe, and fraud,” stating that it provided an easy pathway to residency for foreign investors at a “low price.”

Libertarians should be favoring this, instead of open borders. An immigrant visa is very valuable to the recipient. Most Americans want reduced immigrants, so there preferences suffer a loss when immigrants arrive. The free-market solution is to sell the visas at a price acceptable to compensate Americans for the losses.
