What’s the matter with the United Kingdom? Great Britain is the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, which ushered in an era of energy super-production and launched an epoch of productivity advancements that made many life essentials, such as clothes and food, more affordable. Today, the country suffers from the converse of these achievements: a profound energy shortage and a deep affordability crisis. In February, the Bank of England reported an ongoing productivity slump so mysterious that its own economists “cannot account fully” for it. Real wages have barely grown for 16 years. British politics seems stuck in a cycle of disappointment followed by dramatic promises of growth, followed by yet more disappointment.France and Germany are also declining.
Britain voted for Brexit to leave the EU and gain more national autonomy. They got the opposite, as the supposed Conservative government opened the border for massive immigration. That made housing scarce, and a lot of other problems.
Britain is officially a Christian nation. It would be entirely legal and proper for it to limit immigration to Christians who are genetically similar to historical British citizens. Instead London has been repopulated by Pakistanis and others. Now their Prime Minister gives a speech on how they are willing to send troops into Ukraine. It is baffling how Britain will fight for losers 1000 miles away, but will not fight for themselves.
