Trying to shame Sweden for having sense

The NY Times reports:
Ever since the coronavirus emerged in Europe, Sweden has captured international attention by conducting an unorthodox, open-air experiment. It has allowed the world to examine what happens in a pandemic when a government allows life to carry on largely unhindered. ...

“They literally gained nothing,” said Jacob F. Kirkegaard, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. “It’s a self-inflicted wound, and they have no economic gains.” ...

Sweden put stock in the sensibility of its people as it largely avoided imposing government prohibitions. The government allowed restaurants, gyms, shops, playgrounds and most schools to remain open.
So the Swedes got to eat at restaurants, exercise at gyms, shop in stores, play at playgrounds, attend schools, and live normal lives, while Americans were locked down in fear of a virus.

And the Swedes gained nothing?????

There is some debate about the Swedish experiment, but they seem to be doing better than the USA, as documented here. Swedes have a lower death rate, and less damage to the economy. And they are a whole lot closer to achieving herd immunity.

Sweden's economy was damaged to the extent that it is connected to the economies of other countries that did shut down.

The twisted world view of the NY Times is revealed by this article. It completely ignores personal freedom, and worships the god of GDP. If the USA borrows trillions of dollars to prop up its GDP, then that is not seen as a loss, by this silly analysis.

The NY Times, CNN, and other mainstream media have been telling us a number of lies about the coronavirus, and probably the biggest right now is that we are seeing a big increase in infections.

It seems to me that the number of infections was always about 10 times the number of confirmed cases, so an increase in confirmed cases is just a result of increased testing. So I expect the number of USA deaths per day to continue to go down. If I am wrong, and the leftist media is right, then we should see a big increase in deaths in the next week. We shall see. If it doesn't happen, then you will know that the media have been lying to you.
