California has too many immigrants

A reader claims that Mexicans have been good for California. I am skeptical.

There is no doubt that strawberry growers have been able to harvest their crops more cheaply, and a lot of other businesses have profited from Mexican migrants. Maybe this has reduced the grocery store prices of strawberries significantly, but that is harder to say.

Overall, there are many other factors to consider.

Most Californians have had their water rationed in the last year. Without the Mexican influx, there would have been plenty of water for everyone.

California used to be a Republican state. Now it is Democrat, and the popular mindset is that of parasites and perverts.

California highways are overcrowded. Too many people.

The county where I live used to be free of gang violence. Now I regularly read stories of violent crimes, and they all have Mexican names.

California used to consider a leader in education, and in many other measures of a quality civilization. Not any more.

Millions of white people have fled the state.

So was all the Mexican immigration worth it, to save a nickel on strawberries? I don't think so.

Someone is probably going to comment that most Mexicans hard-working and law-abiding, and that many white Californians are worthless bums. Yes, that is true, but is not really the issue.

So for whoever claimed that there was a study showing that Mexican immigration was good for California, did the study even consider the obvious negatives?

Now it is Democrat, and the popular mindset is that of parasites and perverts. Would you consider this a fact or your own opinion ?

Why not just look at Mexican occupation of Calif. as Manifest Destiny like the U.S. did when it took Calif. from Mexico ? a future event that is sure to happen : a destiny that can be clearly seen and that cannot be changed. It was good enough reasoning for the U.S. in
1846, what's wrong with it now ?

Anonymous: "most Mexicans hard-working and law-abiding"

So are many Africans! That doesn't give them a right to invade a country. Mexico is one of the most violent places in the world and its drugs and violence are spilling into the US. I have a blog post analysing the crime numbers and studies that try to claim that Latinos are peaceful are completely BOGUS. The prisoners aren't even officially counted separately. The industrial revolution demonstrated that innovation comes from wage pressure and these people just squash the incentives. Furthermore, Mexicans are a net tax drain because they don't make enough income. The numbers are very clear and undeniable. Jason Richwine completely debunked phony government studies on this.

Roger, you are being completely one-sided. Asians are taking all the tech jobs!. I have seen charts that show that they're a majority of tech in the bay area. Michelle Malkin and John Miano wrote a recent book you should check out titled Sold Out: How High-Tech Billionaires & Bipartisan Beltway Crapweasels Are Screwing America's Best & Brightest Workers. It's completely out of control.

No, the USA did not take California from Mexico. If anything, the USA took California from Spain about the same time that Mexico got its independence from Spain.

Yes, there are Mexicans in California who wave Mexican flags and try to start riots. They should be treated as an invading force.

I post my opinions, but go ahead and cite any facts that you think contradict what I say.

I have posted many times against the H-1B and other programs to displace American workers. I favor freezing all immigration.

Mexico began independence from Spain in 1821 and the U.S. took Calif from Mexico decades later. I have cited facts that contradict your opinion. I don't think that you have cited facts that support your opinion.

Are you trying to convince me that California rightfully belongs to Mexico because some Mexicans might have wanted that in 1821? No, Mexico never controlled California, and Mexican efforts to invade California today have been bad for California.

MEXICO CONTROLLED CALIFORNIA. IT IS A FACT.
California under Mexican rule (1821–1846)

Substantial changes occurred during the second quarter of the 19th century. The victory in the Mexican War of Independence from Spain in 1821 marked the end of a European power ruling California; the missions faded in importance under Mexican control, while ranching and trade increased.

I don't know if Calif rightfully belongs to Mexico now, but it belonged to Mexico before the U.S. took it from Mexico, and if Mexicans today, feel that it should still belong to Mexico, I can understand why.

"Mexican efforts to invade California today have been bad for California." Well that's too bad...I'm sure that Mexicans felt the same way about the U.S. invading and taking Calif. from them.

In 1844 James K. Polk, the newly-elected president, made a proposition to the Mexican government to purchase the disputed lands.

"If anything, the USA took California from Spain about the same time that Mexico got its independence from Spain."

If the U.S. took Calif. from Spain, if anything, then why did a U.S. president try to purchase Calif from Mexico and not Spain ?

Mexico operates by bribery. Just because someone offered Mexico a bribe, that does not mean that Mexico had any authority over California. According to your source, they were disputed lands. So Mexico made some bogus claim, and Polk offered a bribe for the Mexicans to go away quietly.

Mexico rejected the offer. It says Mexico was made an offer, not a bribe. Of course, it was disputed. After Mexico rejected the PURCHASE offer, the U.S. put up a false flag. Did the U.S. pay a bribe to the French or the Russians when they made offers to purchase land ? Mexico made no bogus claim.

This is like arguing that the USA stole California from the Indians, or from the missionaries, or from the bears, or from the redwoods. Mexico never governed California.

Calif. was under Mexican rule. What are you using to support your claim that it wasn't ?

If California were really under Mexican rule, do you have some example where those Mexican rulers forced Californians to do something different from what they were doing already? Your source just cites some trends that continued independently of Mexico.

Californians were under Mexican rule. Ruling isn't defined as forcing people to do things differently than they had been doing. The laws were changed to Mexican law. They were under Mexican law. That means that they were ruled by Mexico.

Foreigners were limited in their purchase of land grants.
1824 Foreigners could also purchase land grants, but no more than 71.5 square miles.

When Mexico gained its independence from Spain, Alta
California accepted Mexican rule. They became Mexican
citizens. All citizens, whether of Indian or Spanish descent,
were to be treated equally under Mexican law. Leaders in Mexico had to
approve any laws that were made.
