Liberal parents have poorer quality relationships with their offspring – the most important influence on a child’s mental development, according to the survey.
Explaining that political ideology is one of the strongest predictors of parenting style, study author Jonathan Rothwell noted that “conservative and very conservative parents are the most likely to adopt the parenting practices associated with adolescent mental health.”

The first mistake of almost every liberal parents I know is this whole 'I trust my child...' buffoonery, quickly followed by 'I want to be like a best friend to my kid'. In order for any child to grow up without needless confusion, they have to understand boundaries and hierarchy. The child must understand they are not the parent, and vice versa, nor are they buddies.
A child is not a mature adult. The parent has no such excuse.
