Baseball Fan Yells Dinger

The USA is probably the least racist country in the history of the world. Nobody has ever been able to find an example of a Black who has been harmed by a racist policy or behavior. It is difficult to even find an example of someone using a racial slur.

The NY Times reports, correcting a previous false story:

What seemed to be a case of overt racism was actually a misunderstanding, the team said.

After investigating reports that a fan had yelled a racial slur during a game at Coors Field in Denver on Sunday, the Colorado Rockies determined the fan was actually yelling for the team mascot, Dinger, the team said in a statement on Monday.

Why was it national news that a fan taunted a player, even if it were true?

Surely professional athletes can perform without being disturbed by a taunting fan. Since the story turned out to be a hoax, I guess it never happens.
