Rise of the French Far Right

The NY Times has an article attacking the rise of the "far right" in France. It is using the term "far right" more and more, and I wondered what it meant.

It mentions only three things that the French "far right" party supports. Reducing immigration. Limiting Islam, such as banning the public wearing of the Muslim veil. And cutting crime, such as by hiring more police officers.

It also said that the party occasionally complains about France turning savage, but said that other political parties say the same things.

These seem like centrist positions to me. I assume that "far right" is a dog whistle for the NY Times.
