DiAngelo concludes her book with the blunt assertion that “a positive white identity is an impossible goal. White identity is inherently racist; white people do not exist outside the system of white supremacy.”The book continues:
This does not mean that we should stop identifying as white and start claiming to be Italian or Irish. To do so is to deny the reality of racism in the here and now, and this denial would simply be color-blind racism. Rather, I strive to be "less white."For more of what the book actually says, see this summary. This book is probably the biggest selling and most widely accepted statement about race relations today. It has topped the best-seller lists on the NY Times and Amazon. This appears to be the modern consensus. Following this, all Whites are white supremacists. It is inherent, and has nothing to do with whether some White guy has racist views. He is a white supremacist regardless, because of the views of the people of color.
I do not agree with this terminology, but I do not get to define the language. White supremacy used to mean a belief that Whites should have control over other races, but hardly anyone uses the phrase that way anymore.
For example, a NY Times article argues:
As our revived national conversation on race has made clear, the legacies of slavery and white supremacy run wide and deep in American society and political life. One such legacy — which is particularly noteworthy in a presidential election season — has been the survival and preservation of the Electoral College, an institution that has been under fire for more than 200 years. The Electoral College favored the Republicans in 2000 and 2016, and favored the Democrats in 1992, 1996, and 2004. I don't think that it had anything to do with race in any of those years. By this modern usage, everything about America is White supremacist. That will continue until the Whites are systematically replaced with coloreds. This is not a statement about anyone being treated unfairly or anything like that. It is just a matter of Whites now being defined to be inherently White supremacist. The presence of Whites is synonymous with the presence of White supremacy.
The current impetus for all this is the death of George Floyd. The Minnesota attorney general is a weirdo Black Democrat convert to Islam, and he said that he was refusing to release the police body cams because they would make it harder to convict the police officers. The London Daily Mail got them anyway. They show that Floyd's bizarre behavior and breathing complaints started before the officers even touched him. He seemed to already know that he was dying of a fentanyl overdose. It is more and more obvious that the police did not contribute to Floyd's death, and that race had nothing to do with it.
