Joseph R. Biden Jr. selected Senator Kamala Harris of California as his vice-presidential running mate on Tuesday, embracing a former rival who sharply criticized him in the Democratic primaries but emerged after ending her campaign as a vocal supporter of Mr. Biden’s and a prominent advocate of racial-justice legislation after the killing of George Floyd in late May.
Ms. Harris, 55, is the first Black woman and the first person of Indian descent to be nominated for national office by a major party, and only the fourth woman in U.S. history to be chosen for a presidential ticket.This is all about identity politics, and nobody pretends anything else. She was picked because she is not male, not White, not Christian, not a parent, and not really an American. Nobody thinks that she is intelligent or competent or even likable.
She is described as "Black", but she is not descended from slaves. Her father is Jamaican. She probably gets more color from her Indian mother.
She may call herself Christian, but her mother was Hindu and her husband is Jewish.
There is an argument that she qualifies as a natural born American, but her parents were not citizens at the time of her birth. That means that she could have been considered a citizen of Jamaica or India, and only became American because those citizenships were not claimed.
Her best-known political issues are probably putting parents in jail for truancy and forced racial busing. She is also known for accusing Biden of being a racist and a rapist. I do not believe that there is any merit to her accusations, but it is amusing to see her on the ticket with him.
The consensus is that Biden is a senile old fool who will not last four years. I am sure the Left is excited about the prospect of such an anti-American President.
