The term “the West” is especially popular among militant Zionists, from Ben Shapiro to Dennis Prager. These figures talk about “Western values” when justifying foreign wars and telling White people how we should think about ourselves and our history.No, the term has not been hijacked. Not that I have noticed, anyway.Naturally, many people who hear the term ‘the West’ think that it refers to European peoples and their descendants in the Americas. That’s certainly what I think of when I hear it. But ‘the West’ as it’s invoked by Zionists and NATO politicians today is something very different.
Here’s the truth: the term “the West” has been hijacked.
It is debatable whether Israel is part of The West. I would say no, but some of the current Middle East conflicts can be seen as between the colonial powers, including Israel, and the Global South, as represented by Arabs and Mohammedans. I do not agree with this, but it helps explain why Israel is hated so much.
