If you speak with these women you will also discover they think of their mental problems as badges of honor, they often revel in their weaknesses as if they were numerous virtues...the more the better. Many of these women are constantly adding new disorders to their weakness resume. It would appear much of their problems are adopted or psychosomatic in orgin.
I believe this trend is just dressed up 'damseling', a very historical form of feigning vulnerability (consciously or not) for the purposes of acquiring various forms of advantage or accomodation by appealing to the greater society's collective guilt or parenting instincts. The unfortunate side effect of this behavior is perpetual immaturity and a chronic avoidance of personal accountability while constantly holding everyone else but themselves strictly responsible.
