Whites demoted to being non-POCs

It appears that universities have gotten interested in Whites-only meetings.

The London Daily Mail reports, based on an AP story:

University apologizes after setting up segregated online 'cafes' - one for white people and other for people of color - in a 'bid to promote discussions about race and diversity'

The University of Michigan-Dearborn created segregated online 'cafes', with one for white people and the other for black, indigenous and people of color The initiative was meant to promote discussions about race and diversity, and help students 'process current events' Critics labeled the initiative as divisive and argued that safe spaces were typically created for marginalized groups UM-Dearborn apologized in a statement and said the events were not meant to be exclusionary for individuals of a certain race

The University of Michigan-Dearborn issued an apology Wednesday for creating segregated online student 'cafes,' one for white people and another for people of color, that it says were intended to promote discussions about race and diversity.

A statement by the university near Detroit came after two virtual 'cafe' events were held Tuesday, with one advertised as a 'non-POC Cafe' for non-people of color to 'gather and discuss their experience as students on campus and as non-POC in the world.'

The other, dubbed 'BIOPIC Cafe' was for Black, Indigenous and People of Color, and described as a space for 'marginalized racial/ethnic/cultural communities to gather and to relate with one another to discuss their experience as students on campus' and in the world.

The use of language here is curious. While the AP and NY Times have demoted White people into being lower-case whites (and the Wash. Post uses both cases), Michigan is further demoting them to being non-POCs, and sending them to the back of the bus with the zoom meetings.

Soon I expect liberal Whites to be identifying themselves as non-POCs, because the word White suggests White supremacy, and they want to signal their inferior status.

I wonder if the term non-POC is designed to an insult derived from NPC, a gamer term for a non-player character. Wikipedia defines it as "an Internet meme that represents people who do not think for themselves or do not make their own decisions". At one point, Twitter banned accounts using NPC memes to mock White liberal slogans.
